Maybe extremely light pressure with the coarser grits will show good results regarding deep scratches. My take on how to be sure that your ceramic sharpening stone by Spyderco is flat.In one of my previous videos I showed that out of the box the stone is usable but not as flat as I wanted to be.My routine is simple - piece of glass and couple of sizes abrasive grain (silicon carbide) - 80, 220 and 400.You need to used the 80 and 220 just the first time because being as hard as it is the stone does not wear out, does not dish out.The only problem with these type of stones after making the flat is wearing out the abrasive particles and clogging up with metal swarf, so cleaning and refreshing is necessary to ensure fast cutting and avoiding burnishing the edges of your tools. For me 400 grit silicon carbide abrasive grain works just fine for conditioning the stone. I will have to think about the Spyderco's then. I am really more interested in maintaining an edge as my knives dont see much use so just for touchups and if one gets dull from alot of use (just in case) scenario!
